Many purchasers dealing with competitive bids are not legally bound to select the lowest dollar amount, so reputation plays a big part in the selection process. Because the purchaser might be contracting for a machine to be delivered in six to 12 months from the date of issuing a purchase order, there is a long time of waiting that can be sleepless nights if the machine builder looks to be on shaky financial ground. Starting an automation company has its challenges, too. It is tough to be the new machine builder on the block.
Rarely can one person accumulate all of the required knowledge and have the time to bring the resulting automated product to market. There are not enough hours in a day. And there are often more experienced team members available to assist. 3. KNOWING THE PROCESS With all of this said, what is the most important step in the automation design and build process? Knowing and understanding the process one is to automate! Because there is always a time crunch, there is never any time to go back to the drawing board if the machine fails to work.
