Like many of its counterparts, it consists of a series of straight line segments, either vertical (isothermal) or inclined (gradient). Of special interest for high speed flight is the stratosphere, which consists of those exactly or nearly isothermal segments lying between approximately 36 kft (11 km) and 169 kft (52 km).
