There is no overlap of the electron cloud of the central ion and those of the neighboring ions in the point charge approximation (PCA). This is consistent with the result that the values of the dipole polarizability a l ( C u f , CuX) of the copper ion in CuX crystals are close to the value of the free copper ion.
